Bingo!

by Michael Ashby

My mum’s playing Bingo in heaven
With a happy smile on her face
If she’d known there was a Bingo hall in heaven
She’d have looked more forward to the place!
Past 78 and heaven’s gate
It’s 83 and time for tea
With 61 and a baker’s bun
And no queue for the lavatory!
After 41 and time for fun,
She’s won with 54 and wiped the floor
I really do thank my lucky stars
My mum landed in heaven instead of on Mars!

Don’t Look Up

by Tracey Schoales

Eyes down everybody, we’re playing for a full house
Sshh! Goes across the room
You have to be as quiet as a mouse,
Kelly’s eye number one, was the very first call
You could hear pens scratching out an X
All throughout the hall

Snakes alive it’s number 5
That’s two in quick succession
Excitement, fear and wondering
Could the next be in my possession?

Two little ducks, quack quack quack
The players all joining in
It’s there, right there just next to 5!
It seems I’m on for a win!

A distraction though across the way
I missed the very next number
Don’t panic, be calm, it’ll be ok
That’ll teach me though to slumber

As I looked around and missed that chance
I guess it just wasn’t to be
I was almost there, so very close
But someone else won the money

Life is for living, and we take our chances,
A game to play for fun,
Don’t look up, always look forward,
Life’s precious for everyone.

Number’s Up

by Rebecca Spilsbury

I loved going to bingo
And seeing all my chums
I’d listen out for numbers
Hoping they would be the ones

A line, a house would pass me by
The frustration could make a grown man cry!

But I was patient and not het up
Eyes looking down, ears pricked like a pup
I’d calmly wait to hear the call
The call that says this is the ball

BINGO, I shout, it’s my time
I finally got to complete that line!

I’ve been a daughter, mum, nan and wife
I had a ball and enjoyed my life
It’s just that when I heard the call
The call had my number on the ball.
Live on now, make me proud of what you’ll become.

Prayer For Bingo Players

by Bob Barci

Lord –
I am pleased to see my Wednesday night friends;
We gather in your playroom for a friendly game.
Give me the strength to endure the smokers;
Let the caller call at a pace that is just right.
Don’t rush those with many
Or let those with few fall asleep waiting,
And may the caller call what I need;
If not, may someone in the little group around me
Leave tonight with more than they began with.

And Lord –
I pray that tonight or sometime real soon,
I get to raise my voice in praise –
Praise that you deserve –
When I get to shout out BINGO!

Twenty-Four Numbers

Author Unknown

Twenty-four numbers and one free space,
Bingo players, find your place!
Hoping to win if you are able
With the cards that lay upon the table.

With great expectation you quietly sit
Gaining confidence, you smirk a bit.
Here it comes, you see the ball,
As you anxiously wait to hear the call.

The bingo caller shouts out loud and clear
That number you have been waiting to hear!
You rise to your feet and shout out loud:
BINGO! BINGO! Mighty proud!

The other bingo players follow you with their eyes,
As you happily claim that winning prize,
Just the thought of bingo and the chance to win,
Makes you smile one great big bingo grin!
