East Riddlesden Hall is one of those places that stops you in your tracks the first time you see it. A seventeenth-century Yorkshire manor house owned by the National Trust, set on the banks of the River Aire just outside Keighley — it has the kind of quiet grandeur that doesn’t need to announce itself. I’ve had the pleasure of working here on more than one occasion, as a wedding celebrant, funeral celebrant, and event host, across all sorts of different events, and it never gets old.
Wedding Celebrant in Keighley – Chris and Mehreen, November 2023
Some ceremonies are memorable because of what happens in the room. Chris and Mehreen’s was memorable because of what the room represented – two people from entirely different worlds, different cultures, different faiths, choosing to build something entirely their own.
Mehreen came from a Muslim background. Chris did not. Rather than sidestepping that difference or glossing over it with generic sentiment, the two of them leaned into it completely. They called it a ‘fusion’ – and that word became the backbone of the entire day. Not a compromise between two traditions, but a celebration of both. Something genuinely new, built from the best of everything they each brought to it.
Building a ceremony around that concept required care, research, and a great deal of listening. What emerged was something that honoured the significance of Mehreen’s faith and heritage while creating space for Chris’s story too – a ceremony where every element had been chosen deliberately, and where the words felt like they could only ever have been written for these two people.

They told me afterwards it was exactly what they’d been looking for. That’s one of the things I love most about this work – the moments when words land precisely where they need to.
“And we discovered that despite our differences,
One thing was the same.
Love.”
The evening that followed matched the ceremony in its ambition. A fusion reception that brought together guests from both sides of their story – and gave everyone a night they hadn’t quite expected but thoroughly enjoyed.
Event Host in Keighley – The Airedale Hospital & Community Charity Ball, October 2025

In October 2025 I had the honour of hosting the Airedale Hospital & Community Charity Ball at East Riddlesden Hall – a genuinely special evening, not least because it marked the 30th anniversary of a charity that has raised extraordinary amounts of money for the hospital and the wider Airedale community over three decades.
Events like this are where hosting really earns its keep. A charity ball isn’t just a dinner – it’s a carefully orchestrated evening where the energy needs to be managed, the generosity of the room needs to be gently encouraged, and the guests need to feel that every moment has been worth showing up for. That’s a job I genuinely love.

Across the evening I hosted a series of games – including my signature Sing the Next Line round, which went down as well as it always does – drew the raffle, encouraged bids in the silent auction, and later in the night joined the lead singer of the band on stage for a turn that, I’m told, was not entirely expected but very much appreciated.
The event raised a remarkable amount for the Airedale Hospital Community Fund – and being part of that, even in a small way, felt genuinely meaningful. Local charity events like this one are among the most rewarding evenings I have on my calendar.

After the event, the organisers had the following to say:
We’ve had some amazing feedback about the entertainment and our guests really enjoyed everything you did!
I look forward to hosting the event again next year!
East Riddlesden Hall as a Venue
Whether you’re planning a wedding ceremony, a private celebration, or a corporate or charity event, East Riddlesden Hall offers something that very few venues can – genuine historical character in a setting that feels both accessible and extraordinary. The National Trust team who manage the venue are warm and professional, and the grounds and rooms provide a backdrop that photographs beautifully whatever the season.
I’d particularly recommend it for couples who want a celebrant-led ceremony with a sense of occasion — the hall’s interiors lend themselves beautifully to something intimate and carefully crafted, and the grounds offer outdoor options that are genuinely stunning in the right weather.
