Are you looking for a wedding celebrant in Wetherby? Perhaps this post will help. I’m Mark Gregory – an award-winning wedding celebrant based in Addingham, Wharfedale, serving couples across West Yorkshire and the North of England. The Engine Shed in Wetherby is one of my favourite venues to work at, and over the years I’ve been lucky enough to lead some truly unforgettable ceremonies there. Here are three of them.
The Engine Shed, Wetherby
The Engine Shed is one of those venues that just works. Converted from a former railway engine shed – as the name rather gives away – it has an industrial charm that somehow manages to feel both rustic and refined at the same time. It’s versatile enough to suit almost any style of wedding, and the team there, led by the brilliant Lee, are among the most accommodating and professional I’ve encountered anywhere.
Lee’s attention to detail and genuine investment in every couple’s day makes the Engine Shed a joy to work at as a supplier. If you’re considering it as a venue, know that you’ll be in very good hands.
Dale and Anna — Wedding Ceremony in Wetherby at the Engine Shed, April 2022

Some weddings are memorable for their emotion. Some for their elegance. Dale and Anna’s was memorable for being the most gloriously, unashamedly fun ceremony I have ever had the pleasure of leading.
The theme was retro 90s — and they committed to it completely. Slinkies hung from the ceiling. The soundtrack was pure nostalgia. And the atmosphere from the moment guests arrived was one of pure, infectious joy.
Then came the reading.
Dale and Anna had asked me — with a completely straight face during our planning meetings — whether I would be willing to read, with an equally straight face, the entirety of R Kelly’s ‘Bump ‘n’ Grind’, as if it were a work by Shakespeare. Here’s a little snippet – and imagine it read aloud for dramatic effect.
My mind is telling me no
But my body, my body’s telling me yes
Baby, I don’t want to hurt nobody
But there is something that I must confess to youI don’t see nothing wrong with a little bump and grind
With a little bump and grind
I don’t see nothing wrong, baby, hey
I don’t see nothing wrong with a little bump and grindSee I know just what you want
And I know just what you need, girl
So baby, bring your body to me (bring your body here)
I’m not fooling around with you, huh
Baby, my love is true (with you)
With you is where I want to beGirl you need someone
Someone like me, yeah
To satisfy your every need
After the ceremony, as the couple were taking pictures outside, I left with the song blaring out of my speakers, and couldn’t resist a little bump and grind myself:
After the ceremony, Dale and Anna had this to say:
Mark could not have encapsulated the history our relationship any better than he did within the ceremony he wrote. It was like no other wedding we’d ever experienced and even with it still being a substantial ceremony all our guests were fully engaged, enthused and felt part of our marriage ceremony. We genuinely couldn’t have wished for more or for better.
Thank you, Dale and Anna, for having such a blast with me back in 1990 2022!
Naomi and Taj — Wedding Ceremony in Wetherby at the Engine Shed, May 2025
Naomi and Taj’s wedding was one of those ceremonies that stays with you long after the day is done – not just because of how beautiful it was, but because of what it represented.
Taj came from a Sikh background, and Naomi – despite being British herself – chose to honour that tradition fully, wearing the dress of a Sikh bride. It was a genuinely moving gesture, and one that set the tone for a ceremony rooted in love, respect, and a deep appreciation for each other’s worlds.

Weaving Sikh tradition into a celebrant-led ceremony requires care and research. I was honoured to incorporate a reading from the Guru Granth Sahib — the Sikh holy scripture — into the ceremony. It is a text of profound beauty, and in the context of Naomi and Taj’s story, it landed with a weight and meaning that powerfully represented these two beautiful people.
There’s a beautiful passage in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, which says:
“They are not said to be husband and wife, who merely sit together. Rather they alone are called husband and wife, who have one soul in two bodies.”
This quote speaks so powerfully to who Taj and Naomi are as a couple. Their bond isn’t built on proximity or routine – it’s built on connection, compassion, and shared values.

Naomi and Taj took the time to leave me a (five-star, but I’m not bragging, honest) Google review after the ceremony, and here’s the highlight:
The finishing touches in Mark’s service – speaking with us in the morning before the ceremony, encouraging us to face the guests during the ceremony and fantastic style of presentation – added to the memorable experience for us and our guests.
Thank you, Naomi and Taj, for the privilege of telling your story — and for the care and trust you placed in me to tell it right.
David and Katie — Wedding Ceremony in Wetherby at the Engine Shed, October 2025

Every couple has a place that means something to them. For David and Katie, that place is Benidorm.
I knew this going in — Lee, the Engine Shed’s extraordinary wedding coordinator, had already tipped me off that David was known to many simply as “Beni.” The stories that emerged during my planning conversations with the couple were vivid, warm, and at times completely unprintable. Benidorm, it became clear, wasn’t just a holiday destination for this pair — it was a chapter of their lives, a running joke, a shared language, and ultimately, a central thread of their love story.
And so into the ceremony it went.
And then came 2024. Katie wasn’t feeling well, but she brushed it off as just a bug. David, however, was convinced: “You’re pregnant.” Katie disagreed. Three hours before they were both due to leave for Benidorm, she finally took a test. Positive.
David gloated, obviously, but then declared with great seriousness: “This changes everything. I’m not drinking in Benidorm this year. Not a drop.”
Five hours later he was having a beer at the airport. Ten hours later he had collapsed in their hotel room.
