7 Magnificent Outdoor Wedding Locations in Yorkshire

In a recent article, we discussed some of the best outdoor wedding locations in the UK. Now, we’ve decided to hone in on one part of the country that offers a wide selection of potential outdoor wedding venues – Yorkshire.

As a Yorkshireman myself, I am hugely biased towards Yorkshire and the staggering scenery that it offers, but after looking through this selection of potential wedding venues, I’d hope you might be won over too!

Without further ado, here’s our list of the best outdoor wedding locations in Yorkshire.

Outdoor Wedding Locations in Yorkshire

Bolton Abbey

We spoke already about the Tithe Barn, an indoor venue on the Bolton Abbey estate, but the grounds around the abbey offer some absolutely stunning views if you’re looking for an outdoor wedding too. The dramatic backdrop of the old priory – which dates back to the 12th century as an part of an Augustinian monastery – is something you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else, while there’s plenty of space around Bolton Hall if you want photos outside a grand old building that isn’t in ruins.

Malham Cove

Alright, alright, so we had Malham Cove in our list of outdoor wedding locations in the UK, but it’s so good that we had to include it on our list of outdoor wedding locations in Yorkshire too. And why not? Whether you’re taking shots from the bottom of the cove, with the dramatic grey cliff towering above your head, or from the top where the deep-cut limestone pavement offers staggering views of the rolling Yorkshire hills, a wedding here would certainly be one of the most memorable any of your guests will ever attend.

The Cow and Calf Rocks, Ilkley

With a gorgeous view over the Wharfedale valley below, the Cow and Calf Rocks is a location most locals may not immediately think of when considering where they want to get married. But it has everything you need: incredible views, dramatic and towering rock formations (are you sensing a theme here?), and some truly brilliant photo opportunities. It may be a little windy at the very top, but there are plenty of places to seek shelter from the wind for the ceremony itself, before bracing the elements and getting the classic windswept photos while looking out at the world stretching out below.

Falling Foss Tea Garden, Whitby

There are several waterfalls dotted around Yorkshire, but how many of them have a tea garden in the vicinity? Well, there’s at least one – Falling Foss is a waterfall in a beautiful forest setting near the coastal town of Whitby, and its attached tea garden is perfect for weddings under canvas. You’ll have the convenience of shelter while enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings, and the relentless rush of flowing and falling water will be a magnificent background to any words spoken during your ceremony. Truly a magical place to marry.

Fishlake Mill, Doncaster

This one is cheating just a little bit because I’m trying to have purely natural outdoor venues without man-made structures involved. But I couldn’t ignore this amazing location, especially when the nature surrounding this restored 18th century corn mill is so epic. Set in the countryside beside a hugely picturesque lake, Fishlake Mill is slowly becoming one of the trendiest wedding locations for local couples, thanks to its grassy knoll, ornamental pool and jacuzzi on site. The gazebo is awesome for sunset shots as well.

Flamborough Head

Yorkshire doesn’t have miles of coastline, but the East Riding offers some of the best and most popular beaches in the country. If you head north of Hull to Flamborough, you’ll find a beach encircled by protruding white cliffs, which can offer an unusual and striking backdrop to any wedding ceremony. The lighthouse that sits atop the cliffs adds another dimension to any wedding snaps, and the peaceful beach location is perfect for calming the nerves of any hectic and stressful wedding day.

Brownber Tarn

Hear me out guys. Just… hear me out. I know what you’re thinking. “This place looks pretty remote.” Well, it is. It has been described as the most remote tarn in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There aren’t really many (or any) roads nearby, meaning it’s quite a trek to get here. But its remoteness is what makes it so beautiful, and a perfect wedding venue for a couple who want to elope somewhere where they can simply get away from it all. The lack of footfall here has attracted various birds and moorland creatures that you may not find so readily anywhere else, making this lake in the middle of nowhere a perfect place for those who want an authentic, back-to-basics experience of raw nature at its finest.
