Funerals can truly be augmented by a poem that is apt and fitting for the person you have just lost. The following list of funeral poems about running are perfect for those who loved running and generally spending time exercising outdoors.

Run
Author Unknown
Sometimes you need to run
To grab your trainers, your vest
To leave emails and texts
What’s been before
What’s happening next
Sometimes you need the pavement
The park, the drizzle, the rain
The sweat, the mud, the wind and the pain
Sometimes you need to run
Not for a purpose of a goal
But for the sound of your steps
Recharging your soul
The Runner’s Journey
by Mark Gregory
In the stillness of this hushed embrace,
We gather ‘neath the sky’s soft grace,
To bid farewell with hearts held light,
To a runner who took flight.
Through morning mist and golden rays,
They journeyed forth on wooded ways,
Their footfalls gentle on the earth,
Their feet embraced the soil’s sweet birth.
With every stride, they found their song,
A rhythm steady, true and strong,
Their breath a whisper, a silent prayer,
A communion with the boundless air.
The finish line was just a gate,
To realms where runners contemplate,
In meadows vast and valleys wide,
Exploring death with joyful strides.
Now, in the hush of nature’s choir,
Their memory lives, a blazing fire,
As long as forests stand and rivers run,
The runner’s journey is never done.
Runner’s Moans And Groans
by Clive Cooksey
Head cold, chest cold, too young, too old
Calf strain, weight gain
Blood pressure high, blood pressure low
Heartbeat too fast, heartbeat too slow
Back pain, groin strain
Under train, over train
No pain, no gain
Newbies, Old B’s, Honeybees, Bumble Bees
Bees-Knees, knock knees
Got an itch, got a stitch, ended up in a ditch
Too fat, too thin
New trainers break them in, old trainers in the bin
Building up, slowing down
Lost your Mojo? Try lost and found
Fast feet, flat feet
Smelt feet, athletes feet,
Not forgetting, two left feet!
Fat tummy, nose runny
Flatulation, constipation
Varicose veins, growing pains
Bad head – too much tipple
Don’t forget, Jogger’s nipple!
Last but not least, because this is a beast
Plantar fasciitis, now that’s a bugger
Takes so long to recover
This running lark is such fun
So go enjoy it everyone
Sorry for this awful pun
But I’m off out now for my run.
