Part of my Wedding Celebrant services — serving Halifax and the wider Calderdale district.
Halifax earns its character rather than inheriting it. Built on wool and shaped by generations of people who did things the hard way, it has a directness and a warmth that you don’t find everywhere – and a landscape that is, by almost any measure, spectacular.
The Calder Valley, the South Pennines, the moors above Hebden Bridge – this is a part of Yorkshire that gets under your skin.
I’ve worked across Calderdale on several occasions, and the couples I meet here tend to share something: they want a ceremony with substance. Something that means what it says.
Calderdale offers one of the most distinctive ranges of wedding settings in the north of England. Within this one valley you have industrial heritage reimagined as contemporary event space, Victorian civic grandeur, ancient farmhouses, and moorland that stretches as far as the eye can see.
A celebrant-led ceremony can be shaped to suit every single one of those settings – and in this part of the world, the more personal and considered the ceremony, the better it lands.
Halifax couples don’t want generic. They never have. That suits me perfectly.
The Piece Hall — one of the most extraordinary event spaces in the north of England, and Halifax’s greatest asset. An eighteenth-century cloth hall built around a vast neoclassical courtyard, it has been brilliantly restored and now hosts everything from concerts to weddings. For couples who want something genuinely iconic – a setting that photographs magnificently and carries genuine historical weight – The Piece Hall is unlike almost anywhere else I can think of.
Shibden Hall — a fifteenth-century half-timbered manor house set in its own parkland on the edge of Halifax, and the former home of Anne Lister – whose story has brought Calderdale to international attention in recent years. For couples who want history, character, and a setting with genuine emotional resonance, Shibden Hall delivers all of it.
Holdsworth House Hotel — a beautifully preserved Jacobean manor house just north of Halifax, with the kind of intimate elegance that suits a wedding perfectly. Warm, well-run, and characterful in the best possible way.
The Moorlands, Halifax — I’ve hosted an event here and can speak to its qualities directly. A flexible, well-managed venue that works particularly well for evening receptions and celebrations, with a team that puts genuine care into every event.
Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury — slightly south of Halifax but worth mentioning for couples who want an outdoor ceremony with genuine public grandeur. The parkland setting is beautiful and underused for weddings.
Calderdale is one of the most characterful parts of Yorkshire to lead a wedding ceremony in, and I’d love to be part of yours. If you’re planning a wedding in Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Brighouse, or anywhere across the Calder Valley, get in touch.
