Part of my Destination Wedding Celebrant services – travelling from Addingham, Yorkshire, England to wherever your ceremony takes us.
France is the benchmark. When people picture a destination wedding in Europe, France is what they’re usually imagining – even when they don’t realise it. The lavender fields, the chateaux, the vine-covered hills, the light in the late afternoon that painters have been chasing for centuries. France has been setting the standard for romantic celebration for so long that it has become synonymous with it.
And yet France still surprises. Because the France of a destination wedding isn’t Paris – though Paris is extraordinary – it’s the Dordogne village where the church has been standing since the twelfth century, or the Provençal mas where the rosemary grows wild up to the terrace wall, or the Loire chateau that was built for a king and can be yours for a weekend.
I speak conversational French – useful when coordinating with local venues and suppliers – and I have personal connections to France through travel and through my wider European life. It’s a country I understand in the way that matters for a ceremony: through its landscapes, its sense of occasion, and its deep understanding of what it means to celebrate properly.
Because it does everything well, and some things better than anywhere else on earth. The food is extraordinary. The wine is world-class. The venues – from Provençal farmhouses to Loire chateaux to Belle Époque villas on the Riviera – cover every aesthetic a couple could want. And the French approach to a wedding – as a serious occasion that deserves serious food, serious wine, and serious celebration – matches my own approach to a ceremony exactly.
France is also one of the most visited countries in the world for UK destination weddings, which means its supplier infrastructure is excellent. Photographers, florists, caterers, and coordinators who specifically serve international couples are abundant, experienced, and reliably excellent.
A celebrant-led ceremony in France is a symbolic ceremony – the meaning and the memory of the day, with legal paperwork handled in the UK. France requires specific documentation for legal marriages of foreign nationals, which can be complex, but for a symbolic ceremony with UK legal registration the process is entirely straightforward.
I handle my own travel and accommodation, included in my destination wedding fee. My conversational French means I can coordinate directly with French venue teams and suppliers without relying entirely on English-speaking intermediaries.
Château de Bagnols, Beaujolais – a thirteenth-century castle in the Beaujolais wine country, one of the most celebrated wedding venues in France and consistently among the finest in Europe. For couples who want the genuine French chateau experience – history, grandeur, exceptional food – Bagnols is the gold standard.
Domaine de la Baume, Provence – a beautifully restored eighteenth-century estate in the Var, surrounded by vineyards and lavender fields, with ceremony spaces that use the Provençal landscape as their backdrop. For couples who want Provence at its most quintessentially romantic, La Baume delivers.
Château de Varennes, Burgundy – set among the vineyards of Burgundy, a Renaissance chateau that combines genuine historical grandeur with the kind of food and wine culture that makes a French wedding weekend genuinely exceptional.
Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, Côte d’Azur – a Belle Époque villa on a promontory between Nice and Monaco, with gardens designed to resemble a ship’s deck and views across both the Mediterranean and the bay of Villefranche. For couples who want the Riviera at its most spectacular, Villa Ephrussi is extraordinary.
Château Les Crayères, Champagne – set in the heart of the Champagne region near Reims, a Belle Époque mansion with two Michelin stars and a wine cellar that speaks for itself. For couples who want to be married where champagne was invented and drink the best of it on the night, this is the obvious choice.
France is the destination wedding country against which all others are measured, and I’d love to help you create a ceremony worthy of its setting. Whatever part of France has captured your imagination — get in touch.
