What is a Destination Wedding Celebrant?

A destination wedding celebrant does everything a regular wedding celebrant does – writes and delivers a fully personalised ceremony built entirely around you as a couple – but does it anywhere in the world you choose to get married.

That means handling the logistics of travel, working with international venues and suppliers remotely, adapting to different cultures and settings, and delivering a ceremony with the same confidence and care regardless of whether we’re standing in a Yorkshire barn or on the edge of a Greek cliff. The ceremony travels with you. The quality doesn’t change.

I’ve led destination wedding ceremonies in Cyprus, Greece, Denmark, Germany, Ibiza, Zante, and beyond – with more to come! – and all these for couples who wanted something genuinely different from a conventional British wedding, and who needed a celebrant confident enough to make it work wherever the day took us.

Based in Addingham, in the North of England, I travel across Europe and beyond for destination weddings – bringing the same award-winning approach to every ceremony, whatever the timezone.

Why a Destination Wedding?

A destination wedding isn’t just a wedding in a beautiful place. It’s a decision to make the location part of the story – to choose a setting that means something, or simply one that’s so extraordinary it becomes part of the memory of the day itself.

Destination weddings tend to be smaller, more intimate, and more deliberately chosen than conventional weddings. The guests who make the journey are the ones who genuinely matter. The setting is never accidental. And the ceremony – freed from the constraints of a fixed format and a local registrar – can be exactly what you want it to be.

That’s where I come in. But you may be asking:

Why should I pay for you to fly out when I can just get someone local?

Honestly, great question – and if a local celebrant fits your budget better, that might genuinely be the right choice for you. I’d rather be honest about that than oversell myself.

But here’s what I’d ask you to consider.

A local celebrant will know the venue and probably speak the language. What they won’t know is you – your story, your humour, the specific texture of your relationship, what makes the two of you different from every other couple who has stood in that spot. And in a destination wedding, where the guest list is deliberately small and the people who made the journey are the ones who matter most, the ceremony carries more weight than ever. It has to be right.

I’ve spent years learning how to get it right for couples who are anything but straightforward. My wife is Ukrainian. I speak German fluently and conversational Russian and French. I’ve lived in Cyprus, Ukraine, and Germany, and I’ve travelled extensively across Europe – so when you tell me you’re getting married in Slovenia, or Greece, or Denmark, I’m not working from a brochure. I have a genuine feel for the places, the cultures, and the people.

I also understand international relationships from the inside. The particular joys and complications of loving someone from a different country – navigating different families, different traditions, different expectations of what a wedding should look like – are things I’ve lived as well as observed. That understanding changes how I write a ceremony for couples who come from different worlds and are choosing to build something together.

Beyond that – I’m adaptable in a way that matters at destination weddings specifically. I’ve started ceremonies in Greek when the couple asked me to pretend I didn’t speak English. I’ve led a bilingual Ukrainian and English ceremony in Stockton. I’ve officiated on a clifftop in Cyprus, on a beach in Zante, and in a town hall in Germany. Things go differently abroad. Logistics shift. The unexpected happens. I’ve learned to roll with all of it.

The flight is included in my fee. What you’re paying for is someone who will make your ceremony genuinely personal, genuinely delivered, and genuinely memorable – wherever in the world you’ve chosen to say your vows.
